Author  and National Artist Kowit Anekchai dies aged 81

Author and National Artist Kowit Anekchai passed away on Sunday from a lung inflection at a Chiang Rai hospital. He was 81.

Kowit, who was best known by his pen name “Khema Nantha”, penned several novels, poems and dharma books. 

Born on February 24, 1938 in Songkla, Kowit graduated from Silpakorn University in Decorative Arts in 1965. He then was ordained and studied with the late venerable monk Buddhasa Bhikkhu at Suan Mokkh in Surat Thani where he created murals depicting dharma teachings.

Kowit was named a National Artist by the Culture Ministry in 2007.

The bathing rite takes place on January 14 at 4.30pm at Wat Chonprathan Rangsarit in Nonthaburi followed by the funeral at 7pm. The funeral rites continue though January 19.

Kowit will be cremated on January 20 at 4.30pm.
