Launched by the Culture Ministry, the film is part of year-long activities based on khon, which was added to Unesco’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity last year. It’s also part of Asean Cultural Year, which is being chaired by Thailand.
The ministry is promoting the Thai film industry in order to gear up for Thailand 4.0 after capitalising on the success of last year’s “9 Satra”. The film will be given free screenings around the country during April to May, before being taken to Indonesia.

Produced by veteran producer Nonzee Nimitrbutr, the film is directed by Atipat Kamonpet who worked with famous animator Kompin Khemkamnerd on “Khan Kluay”. “Rama Avatar took nearly a year to make and combines traditional Thai art on murals with hi-tech animation. Its main target audience is young Thais and foreign film lovers.
