Where students get the best preparation for success

Where students get the best preparation for success

Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School (Bangkok Prep), one of the country's recently-established international schools, is now accredited and authorised by four highly recognised foreign and Thai organisations.

The achievement underlines not only its academic excellence but also its international-standard school management and operations, as well as social contribution in various areas.

The school has received accreditations and authorisations from the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Federation of British International Schools in Southeast Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA).

According to Keith B Wecker, headmaster of Bangkok Prep, it's a rare achievement to get all these accreditations in one year.

"The key to this achievement is our commitment to providing an education where students can prepare for life and realise their full potential through a stimulating and challenging international learning community.

"We aspire to an appreciation of cultural diversity and a willingness to embrace social and personal responsibility. The school is committed to nurturing the learning experience for our pupils."

To achieve these four significant milestones, the school launched an extensive 18-month self-study process, reviewing all aspects of its curriculum, management, resources, health and safety, campus facilities, governance, finance and buildings - to ensure they all met the individual requirements and criteria of each of the accrediting agencies.

The school was also visited by external validators for a five-day rigorous verification process, with personal interviews with all stakeholder representatives.

Established in 2003, Bangkok Prep is a private co-education international school. It offers an education programme based on the National Curriculum of England, offering a quality education to pupils from nursery up to Year 13.

Bangkok Prep also offers a rigorous IGCSE programme to Year 10 and 11 students as a precursor to the Cambridge-approved 'A' Levels available for study in Years 12 and 13, thus preparing students for university education.

This year, three Bangkok Prep students have achieved top scores at IGCSE, further proof of the school's academic excellence.

In addition to academic distinction, social responsibility is another area of focus at Bangkok Prep. To instil responsible citizenship awareness and practice among its students, the school inspires its students to initiate and participate in various social contribution projects.

For example, Year 11 and 12 students' take a trip to Angkhang Nature Resort in Chiang Mai, where they get their hands dirty doing community service work and teaching children. Year 12 students donate money raised from charity work to plant trees in the mangrove area in Bangpu. There is also the Banyan Tree Project, which is designed to enlighten school members on both environmental and community needs.

Bangkok Prep's fully qualified teaching team, its promotion of diversity, its warm, supportive and caring environment, as well as its close-knit relations with parents and friends of the school community have all contributed to its reputation and success.

Usa Somboon, president of the International School Associations of Thailand and the representative from ONESQA said: "I have to commend and congratulate Bangkok Prep and the Thai teachers for offering and managing a quality programme at the school and successfully achieving the requirements of quality assurance, including the QNESQA's requirements for Thai language and culture, which has been effectively implemented in the school."
