Big drop in university research budget
The budget for the national research university project |will go down from Bt2 billion |to Bt833 million, says a top |official at the Office of the Higher Education Commission (Ohec).
Ohec deputy secretary-general Assoc Prof Piniti Ratananukul revealed that nine universities under the project would be given Bt833 million as stated in the Research University Budget Allocation Act.
The project aims to fund more research for the sake of the country and strengthen the quality of their research and personnel.
Piniti said Ohec would be given a Bt6.38-billion annual budget to conduct its work, and Bt2.69 billion or 42 per cent of the budget would go to research funds.
Ohec also plans to give opportunities to more researchers by increasing the country’s research budget from 0.2 per cent of gross domestic product to 2 per cent.
