Thai-Lao trade in Nong Khai rises in 2011
The value of Thai-Lao trade at the Friendship Bridge border checkpoint in this northeastern Thai province on the Mekong River in 2011 reached Bt43.7 billion (about US$1.4 billion), up from the previous year at Bt38.1 billion (about $1.2 billion).
Padermdej Mangkang, acting head of Thailand’s Nongkhai customs checkpoint said that of the total border trade value, imports into Thailand were worth some Bt2.5 billion ($80 million) while exports were valued at almost Bt41 billion ($1.3 billion).
The total number of people crossing the border was recorded at 5.3 million in 2011, up from 4.7 million people last year.
