Army ranger accidentally killed by comrade

A member of the Army's 4306th paramilitary rangers company was accidentally shot and killed Monday night by a fellow ranger who was cleaning his weapon.

Ranger Chamnan Sawangrat, based in Patthalung, was shot in the chest when Ranger Keerati Bunkhrua accidentally discharged his AK47 rifle while cleaning it. The victim was walking past Keerati on the way to the toilet when the rifle went off.
Meanwhile, a defence volunteer was shot dead and his weapons stolen in Narathiwat’s Bacho district Tuesday.
Police said Buraheng Maha, 58, was working in a garage at Ban Korae in tambon Bare Tai when a group of men arrived in a pickup truck.
One of the men alighted from the vehicle, approached Buraheng and shot him in the head with a .38 pistol, killing him instantly. The man then searched Buraheng’s pickup truck, stole a shotgun and a 9mm pistol, and fled in the waiting pickup, police said.
Police were investigating the incident.
