WB guidebook on urban flooding released on Monday

WB guidebook on urban flooding released on Monday

World Bank on Monday will release a new guidebook "Cities and Flooding: A Guide to Integrated Urban Flood Risk Management for the 21st Century".

The guideline is aimed to guide vulnerable countries how to meet the challenge of urban flooding.
In a media invitation, the World Bank said that urban flooding is becoming an increasingly serious development challenge at a time when East Asian countries are rapidly transitioning to largely urban societies. The earthquake-induced tsunami in Japan, large-scale floods in Thailand and the tropical storm in the Philippines are examples of the tragic loss of life and economic damage such disasters can cause.
The guidebook provides forward-looking operational guidance on how to manage the risk of floods in a quickly transforming urban environment and changeable climate, and includes over fifty case studies. It was produced with the financial support of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) in partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
