Village head shot dead in Narathiwat

Village head shot dead in Narathiwat

A village head was shot dead by suspected insurgents in front of his house in Sungai Padi district, Narathiwat province early Tuesday morning.

Police found the body of Sainung Ada, 50, riddled with bullets with a pistol still in his hand. Found at the scene of attack were 18 cartridges from AK-47 and M-16 rifles.
The initial police investigation showed that Sainung was walking in front of his house at about 5am when two gunmen hiding there opened fire. He tried to fight back but it seems likely that his weapon jammed.
The village head had earlier been attacked by a suspected insurgent. At that time, he was able to fight back and the gunman retreated. He had publicly announced that he would join hands with the government authorities to crackdown on separatists.
