BMA to house 200 homeless people a day at new shelter

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will provide shelter to about 200 homeless people a day at a former waterworks office it has leased from the Crown Property Bureau.

Thaya Teepasuwan, deputy BMA governor, said the BMA has leased 4.3-rai plot from the bureau, which used to be the office of Mansri Waterworks branch since April. The leasing will last 30 years.
She said three-storey building of the old waterworks office would be developed into shelter to accommodate no more than 200 homeless people a day.
She said homeless people would be registered and screened on the daily basis to be eligible for the accommodation.
The modifying of the three-storey building for housing the homeless and for providing career training to them would be completed in time for taking in homeless people on October 1.
