Cabinet extends tax refund for first-time car buyer until yearend

The Cabinet Monday extended the project of tax refunding for first-time vehicle buyers until the end of the year.

Government spokesperson Sansanee Nakpong said the Cabinet approved the proposal of the Finance Ministry to extend the project from July 13 to the end of the year.
She said so far over 90,000 first-time vehicle buyers have received tax refunds worth over Bt6 billion.
The Finance Ministry expected that over 300,000 buyers would want to apply for the tax refunds but the car manufacturers could not deliver their vehicles in time of the deadline due to severe flooding late last year.
As a result, the first-time car buyers could submit their request to the Excise Department within December 31 and could submit their car registration document to the department three months later.
