Don't call it a drought: Plodprasob

Don't call it a drought: Plodprasob

There will be a sufficient supply of water for consumption and personal use this year, said Plodprasob Surassawadi, the science and technology minister and head of the government's Water and Flood Management Commission.

He said this year’s water problem should not be called a drought. Rather, we have “less water than normal”, he said.
Plodprasob said on the “Yingluck Government Meets the People” TV show that calling the current situation a drought was too severe. But he agreed water quantity was less than last year. There was sufficient water for consumption and personal use but not for agricultural purposes. So, he urged farmers to grow plants that require less water, following the Royal Irrigation Department’s advice.
The government would continue rainmaking activities for another 15 days after three previous missions. Water from dams would be released to irrigate fields. Pak Moon Dam was closed a month earlier than usual in November, while about 2,000 areas had been dug to find groundwater, the minister said, adding that water would be diverted to many river basins in the Central region.
