Phnom Penh, Bangkok now twin cities

Phnom Penh, Bangkok now twin cities

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra yesterday signed a contract with his Phnom Penh counterpart Kep Chuktema to make the two capitals twin cities.

According to the contract, the two capitals will promote the interests of Phnom Penh and Bangkok residents in terms of economic, social, cultural, education, environment, work and technical cooperation.

The two capitals will also promote training on science, economy, literature and education.
This contract will also make it easier for investors from the two capitals to exchange experience and knowledge.
Sukhumbhand said he hoped this cooperation would strengthen the two nations’ friendly ties as well as overcome conflicts. He explained that close ties between the capitals would allow sensitive issues to have little or no impact on a national level.
The governor added that Bangkok had been successfully developed on several aspects and could help Phnom Penh, adding that his city would cooperate with the Cambodian capital no matter which government was in power.
Kep said he was glad that Phnom Penh was Bangkok’s twin city and hoped this would improve ties between the two nations.
Phnom Penh is the 24th city to team-up with Bangkok. The capital’s other twin cities include Washington DC, Beijing, Moscow, St Petersburg, Budapest, Brisbane, Manila, Seoul, Jakarta, Vientiane, Tehran and Shanghai.
