Two Thais arrested for bag snatching

Police have arrested two Thai men for snatching the belongings of an Australian tourist in Yannawa district.

The suspects were identified as Theerasak or Jack Chaiyakan, 26 and Kittisak Juicharoen, 19. They allegedly snatched Kristina Jones’ belongings on Tuesday on Narathiwat Rachanakarin Road.

Jones alerted Yannawa police. Police later found two men who met the description provided by Jones. The two were behaving suspiciously while riding a motorcycle around Sathorn district around 3.30pm.
Police searched them and found Jones’ belongings. A search of their houses also turned up many items including handbags and cameras, which police said they had snatched from other victims.
Displayed at the press conference was Bt3,000, two Iphones 4, a Blackberry smartphone, several handbags, a camera and 50 Australian dollars.
Police said both suspects confessed to robbing Jones and others. They claimed they targeted female foreigners who boarded tuk tuks because they usually placed their handbags beside them, facilitating their work. When they got the handbags, they would take only valuables and cash before throwing away the handbags. They then used the stolen money for car accessories.
Theerasak has a prior arrest warrant for bag snatching while Kittisak was released from prison on December 28, 2012 having served time for the same charge.
