Stowaway snake clings to Qantas plane for 90-minute fight

Sydney - A 3-metre python slithered aboard a Qantas Airways passenger jet and clung to a wing flap for the 90-minute flight between Australia and Papua New Guinea despite freezing temperatures and 300-kilometre-per-hour headwinds.

"He was still hanging on for his dear life all the way until we landed in Port Moresby," passenger Robert Weber told national broadcaster ABC on Friday.

"When we landed the aircraft we couldn't believe he was still moving. We saw it die. It took its last breath."   Weber, a professional photographer, filmed Thursday's drama aboard the twin-engined Bombardier Dash-8 turboprop on flight QF191 from Cairns to the Papua New Guinea capital.

Weber and the 43 others on board could do nothing as the back portion of the snake was hammered against the fuselage by the wind.

"It was very, very sad," Weber said. "I don't think you'll eversee this kind of thing again."//DPA
