Prachuap deputy governor shoots himself
The deputy governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sutthipong Therdrattanapong, 56, yesterday shot himself dead in his residence, reportedly because he was struggling with severe depression.
Following a suicide report in the afternoon, police rushed to Sutthipong’s home in Muang district to find his body slumped against a wall with a 9mm pistol near him. Police said he shot himself in the right temple and had been dead for about an hour before his body was discovered.
Provincial governor Weera Sriwattanatrakul, who went with senior officials to the scene, said Sutthipong had been suffering from severe depression since he served as a deputy governor in Nakhon Si Thammarat. He served as Weera’s deputy for just six months before shooting himself. He said Sutthipong appeared to have killed himself over the illness rather than work problems.
