Pavena seeks to widen scope of Women's Fund spending

Social Development and Human Security Minister Pavena Hongsakul yesterday said the government had invested Bt1.5 billion of the Bt7.7-billion budget earmarked to support vocational training and gatherings of women's groups under the Thai Women's Empowerme

Pavena said the ministry would push to have more women join the fund, whose current membership was about 500,000. She said she had consulted with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the scope of spending, suggesting that it should cover not just vocational training and job creation, but also promotion of women’s education.
The minister said the Student Loan Fund only funded undergraduates. Underprivileged teenagers who needed vocational education had no access to it. After the budget was allocated and each province’s committee followed through on the budget spending, implementation and problem-solving, a major meeting of fund members would be held on July 11, Pavena added.
