90 Thai academics win EU scholarships

The European Union (EU) has awarded its 'Erasmus Mundus' scholarships for 2013 to 90 Thai academics, who will benefit from the full scholarships to cover their Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate and Post-Doctorate studies at European universities during

Their fields of study include, amongst others, subjects like engineering, natural sciences, biodiversity and environmental management, medicine, international relations, public policy, criminology, cultural narratives, arts and humanities. 
Since the start of the EU's Erasmus Mundus programme in 2004, more than 600 Thai students and scholars have been granted such scholarships, according to the data of EU.
At the EU's annual Erasmus Mundus reception today in Bangkok, Ambassador David Lipman, head of the delegation of the European Union to Thailand, congratulated all awardees. "For the past four years, I have met and congratulated the talented Thai Erasmus Mundus students and researchers. The number of the scholarships awarded this year is at a record high of 90. These top-notch students and academics will play a vital role in enriching person-to-person relations between Europe and Thailand through academic development, European language learning and cultural exchange. I encourage all Thai students and academics to apply for Erasmus Mundus scholarship so as to join us in strengthening Thai-European relations." he said said.
Over 70 students and scholars have been awarded the Erasmus Mundus scholarships for part of their education to take place at European universities, with the other part taking place at Thai partner universities. Another 17 Thai students have been awarded Erasmus Mundus scholarships for full-time Master's and Doctorate studies at the top-ranked universities of the European Union. The Thai awardees are among 1,966 graduate students and 364 doctorate candidates selected worldwide to receive Erasmus Mundus scholarships in 2013.
Erasmus Mundus is the European Union’s flagship cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education. It aims to enhance the quality of higher education and promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through mobility and academic cooperation.
