Happiness index declines

Happiness index declines

Thais become less happy because of economic problems and political conflicts, according to a recent survey by the Assumption University.

The Abac Poll covered 2,103 respondents in 17 provinces and was conducted between July 29 and August 1. It found that Thailand's Gross National Happiness Index has decreased continuously to 5.62 points from the 10-point scale. The surveys in December and March showed the index was at 7.58 points and 6.58 points, respectively.

The main negative factor is an increase of the cost of living while income remains the same or lower. This contributed the most to the declining happiness. Political conflicts trailed closely behind.

However, Thai people were the most happy, observing their countrymen’s unity for the nation, religion and the monarchy.
