Water level at nationwide dams still low, despite storm

The water level in Sirikit Dam and Ubonrat Dam has increased, following rain brought about by the Mangkhut tropical storm, said Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

According to EGAT, combined water reserves at all dams under its watch at the midnight of August 8 totalled 34,081 million cubic metres, or just 55 per cent of capacity. This is 6 per cent or 2,340 million cubic metres lower than last year's level at the same period.
The water level at Bhumibol Dam is the lowest, now 1,967 million cubic metres below last year's level. The situation is also worrisome at Sirikit Dam.
The sub-committee monitoring the situation agreed that farmers should rely mainly on rainwater for its rice plantation.
