30 M'sian couples wed in Thailand everyday
About 30 Malaysian couples tie the knot in Thailand every day, mostly involving polygamous marriages and those who cannot get the blessings of the bride's family, reported Malay-language tabloid Kosmo!.
Mohd Faizal Razali, the Malaysian consul-general in Songkhlal, said most of those who travelled across the border to marry were couples in their 30s from the Malaysian states of Perlis, Kelantan, Kedah and Perak.
He said the two top reasons for couples marrying in Thailand included a failure of the groom to get the first wife’s consent and objections to the marriage from family members.
“Some of the marriages were with foreigners in Thailand, including those from India and Pakistan,” he said.
Mohd Faizal said quick and cheap procedures in Thailand were an added attraction.
