Centre set up to support Khlong Toei fire victims

Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra on Monday inspected the disaster victims' assistance co-ordination centre in Bangkok's Khlong Toei district, set up to provide aid to residents affected by Saturday's major fire.

The blaze burned down 42 homes in the Rom Klao community – engulfing 35 totally and partially damaging seven others.
Sukhumbhand said that so far 430 fire-affected people had registered for help at the centre and the city would provide them with help including relief bags, Bt1,500-per-month assistance money for two months, and Bt10,000 compensation per head.
He confirmed the city's disaster prevention and mitigation units had reached the fire scene in 10 minutes and took only about one hour to put out the blaze.
Meanwhile, Tha Reu police superintendent Pol Col Ketchakard Nilpradap said police had issued an arrest warrant for a tenant in her 30s. Several witnesses told police she had a fight with her husband and lit a fire in her rented home which led to the inferno. Her relatives had contacted police and said she would soon surrender to them.
