A musical celebration of bilateral ties

A musical celebration of bilateral ties

Wim Mertens, a well-known composer, countertenor vocalist, pianist, guitarist and musicologist from Belgium, will perform in Bangkok on October 31 to mark long-standing Thai-Belgian relations.

This year marks the 145th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and the 130th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Hosted by the Belgian Embassy, the concert will take place at the music hall in Chulalongkorn University’s Art and Culture Building.
Mertens began composing music in 1980 and has since earned a name as an international recording and performing artist.
He performed regularly as a soloist as well as with his ensemble across Europe, as well as in North and Central America, Japan and Russia.
The artist plays the piano, as well as classical guitar and sings with a characteristically high-pitched voice using a carefully crafted personal language.
He has released more than 50 albums featuring such popular numbers as “Struggle for Pleasure”, “Close Cover”, “4 Mains”, “Their Duet” and “Maximising the Audience”.
Mertens pleases everyone from mainstream listeners to serious music aficionados by using minimalist techniques with a romantic twist.
