Storm threatens Philippine provinces devastated by Typhoon Haiyan

Manila - A tropical storm was bearing down on the eastern Philippines Friday, two months after a powerful typhoon killed more than 6,200 people in the area, the weather bureau said.

Tropical Storm Kajiki intensified as it moved towards the regions of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao with maximum winds of 85 kilometres per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 100 kph.
"Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides," the bureau said.
"Those living in coastal areas are alerted against storm surges."
The coast guard banned ships from leaving various ports in Eastern Visayas and Mindanao, leaving more than 5,000 people stranded, while several domestic flights were cancelled.
In November, Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Eastern Visayas, triggering tidal surges up to 6 metres and flattened communities, leaving more than 4 million people homeless.
