Chadchart denies planning to run for Bangkok governor's post

Caretaker Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt announced yesterday that he had never thought of running for the post of Bangkok governor.

He also posted a message on Line saying nobody had approached him to contest for the position either.
The Election Commission has decided to cancel the result of last year’s gubernatorial poll on grounds that the winner, ML Sukhumbhand Paribatra, had been assisted by election campaigns that defamed his main Pheu Thai Party opponent. The EC’s decision to call a new election has yet to be approved by the Appeals Court.
Chadchart, meanwhile, said the job of running the capital efficiently was difficult, because the administration was responsible for everything from education and public health to tidiness and hygiene.
He noted that though he was popular on social media, it did not necessarily indicate that he could win a race for the Bangkok governor’s post.
“Being popular doesn’t mean that I would be able to govern Bangkok well or that people would elect me as governor,” he posted.
