'Magical powers' alleged fraud arrests

'Magical powers' alleged fraud arrests

Bangkok's Ratchadapisek Criminal Court yesterday allowed fraud suspects Thanawat and Juthatip Asawapolsuwan to be released on Bt200,000 bail each.

Thanawat, 43, who is also known as Karawek Thepnathong Sanehmonsonroop, and his 42-year-old wife were brought to the court for the initial 12-day detention period while police investigate the allegation that they duped at least four women and three men out of Bt1.9 million.
The court allowed the couple’s release after they submitted two condominium units as a bail deposit.
Following the couple’s arrest in Pathum Thani’s Nong Sua district on Friday, police found three guns with ammunitions along with 183 terracotta dolls, three magic spell books and three books listing clients.
Facing charges of public fraud and illegal gun possession, the couple denied any wrongdoing.
They advertised on a website that Thanawat had magical powers and could make people more attractive to lovers, make ex-lovers return to women and improve business prospects.
Thanawat also allegedly coerced a female victim to have sex with him after saying the rite required it.
After police urged more people to provide information, two more alleged victims came forward yesterday.
