I'nesian confesses to smuggling Chinese meth for African gang

An Indonesian man was arrested with 2.85 kilograms of crystal meth from China at Chiang Mai Airport, Regional Customs Bureau III director Seree Thaijookrak announced yesterday. The drugs were reportedly worth Bt8.4 million.

Sunaryi Ayi, 42, who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, was suspected of being a member of a West African drug ring in China.
Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) deputy secretary-general Ratchaneekorn Sornsiri said the suspect reportedly confessed to being hired by West Africans in China for US$500 (Bt16,300) to transport the drugs for the group, which reportedly distributes narcotics throughout Asia and has members in countries including the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. Many Thai women have reportedly been duped into transporting drugs for the gang, she added.
