Thais earn four gold medals at physics olympiad

Thai students came away with four gold and a silver medal at the 45th International Physics Olympiad. It was held from July 13 to 21 in Kazakhstan.

The winners are scheduled to land in Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport this morning, where they will be welcomed with a reception. 
The gold medallists were: Wich Sriprachayakul and Sorawit Wattanapenpaibul from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School in Nakhon Pathom; Thipayawit Cheunjit from Bangkok’s Samsen Wittayalai School; and Korawat Preuksanusak from Bangkok’s Triam Udom Suksa School. The silver medallist was Pasawi Manakul from Nakhon Pathom’s Mahidol Wittayanusorn School.
Pornpan Vitayangkorn, director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), said a total of 374 students from 85 countries participated in the competition, which was held in the Kazakh capital Astana. Of the participants, 43 won gold, 80 won silver and 89 won bronze medals, while 62 students were given honorary mention. China, Taiwan and South Korea won five gold medals each, while Vietnam, and Singapore garnered three each.
