Judge denies Apple's attempt to ban sales of certain Samsung phones

San Francisco - A California judge on Wednesday denied a bid by Apple to ban sales of Samsung products that infringe its iPhone patents.

Apple wanted US District Judge Lucy Koh to issue a permanent injunction against Samsung to block the sale of some older Samsung smartphone models.
The phones were among those that a California jury in May found infringe on two Apple patents. The jury ordered Samsung to pay Apple 119.6 million dollars.
Apple had sought 2.2 billion dollars in damages for what it argued was Samsung's violation of four smartphone patents.
Apple's case against Samsung covered smartphones that use Google's Android operating system, including the Galaxy S3.
In a previous patent trial, Apple was awarded more than 900 million dollars in damages for Samsung patent violations.
Apple and rival Samsung have engaged in a worldwide patent fight for years, but there have been signs recently that the battle is winding down.
Earlier this month they agreed to drop all suits against each other in countries outside the US. That meant claims in Australia, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Netherlands, Britain, France and Italy were waived.
