Graft suspected in futsal field project

Graft suspected in futsal field project

The Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating suspected graft in the construction of 30 futsal fields in six Nakhon Ratchasima districts that show premature degradation.

The total cost of this construction project spanning 101 schools in 17 provinces is five times the normal price and the damage to them began only after two years in use, PACC secretary-general Prayong Preeyajit said yesterday.
PACC and local military units in the Northeast recently inspected some futsal fields after receiving complaints of premature damage. Altogether 30 fields in six districts were discovered to be already wearing out, as they were built with substandard materials.
The layout for a field under this project cost Bt2,600 per square metre, while the normal rate is Bt1,600, he said, adding that irregularities were also detected with the purchase of sports manuals and health booklets that appeared overpriced. Under this plan, fields were completed in 11 provinces for Bt335 million but scrapped at 257 schools in six provinces, where other facilities were built instead, he said.
