Beware those fake Whatsapp update adverts
Berlin (dpa) - Android users need to be aware of malware making the rounds that poses as a service for updating Whatsapp.
The pop-up ad encourages people to tap it and download a new version of the instant messaging programme or else lose access to the service, warns a German-language watchdog group called Zuerst denken, dann klicken (Think first, then click).
Users are advised to ignore such ads, as they are not coming from Whatsapp.
If you are uncertain, check the settings in your own messenger programme, under accounts and then payment info, to see the status of your account. New installations should only be conducted via the Google Play Store.
