Bid to get compensation for most crime victims

The Rights and Liberties Protection Department is working with police to ensure that all victims of murder and assault - including sexual assault - or their families will be notified of the right to compensation when lodging a police complaint.

Department head Pol Colonel Narat Savetanant said they had launched a pilot project at 45 provincial police stations, where a department official was on site to gather compensation claims.
He said the project would soon be expanded to another 31 police stations, and within a year one-stop service centres would be located at all police stations so claims could be filed.
Narat made the comments during at a meeting with police representatives from 76 stations nationwide yesterday, in which guidelines were given for assisting victims in accordance with the Compensation for Victims of Crime Act.
The percentage of crime victims receiving compensation rose from 38 per cent in 2013 to 68 per cent so far this year.
