Thais freed from I'nesian fishing trawler back home

Five Thais - including two boys aged 13 and 15 - who were forced to work on a fishing trawler in Indonesia returned to Don Mueang Airport on Wednesday night.

Indonesian Immigrant Police had earlier inspected a fishing boat near Ambon Island and found two Bung Kan province boys on the vessel but the boat owner produced fake documents that identified them as older Cambodian nationals. The boys’ mothers had, in mid-November, appealed to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha to bring their sons back.
Upon their arrival, the five Thais were welcomed by family and friends at the terminal, before being sent to the Pathum Thani Provincial Protection and Occupational Development Centre for Men for remedial procedures and legal aid.
Labour Rights Promotion Network Foundation director Sompong Sakaew said the two teenage boys would spend some time with their families before going into the procedure.
Meanwhile, Samut Sakhon Employment Office official Wanchai Sakhonmaneerat led police and Samut Sakhon Fisheries Association representatives yesterday on an inspection of immigrant workers on three trawlers at Tha Chin River Bay, in a bid to prevent human trafficking. They found no forced labourers or child workers.
