Jackie Chan's son jailed for drug offence

Beijing (dpa) - The son of Hollywood actor Jackie Chan was jailed by a Beijing court Friday for a drugs offence.

The Dongcheng district court sentenced Jaycee Chan, 32, to 6 months in jail and fined him 2000 yuan (321 dollars) for sheltering drug users, according to a statement on its website.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison.
Chan had pleaded guilty in court earlier Friday, official state broadcaster CCTV said.
The younger Chan was arrested in August last year, with police saying he tested positive for marijuana.
He was released after a two-week detention.
The defendant also admitted in court Friday he had 117.72 grams of marijuana in a safe box in his bedroom, according to Tencent News reporters who attended the trial.
The trial on Friday was attended by about 100 people including relatives, local journalists and members of the public, according to the court's live blog.
Jackie Chan, 60, said earlier that he and his wife would not attend the trial, according to news reports. The actor has a high profile in China and was named a "Narcotics Control Ambassador" by Chinese authorities in 2009. He issued a public apology in the wake of his son's arrest.
China has detained a series of celebrities in recent months on drug-related charges in cases that have been widely publicised in local media.
