Shocked Cornet shows support on court for Paris terror victims

Perth, Australia (dpa) - French tennis player Alize Cornet earned a point for her nation at the Hopman Cup on Friday and expressed her outrage and shock at the Paris terror attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

"We're not afraid. We're going to stand up and show them who we are," Cornet said after defeating Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4, 2-6,7-5.
Cornet came to the court with a hand-written "Je Suis Charlie" message of international support taped to her racquet bag.
She also wore a black ribbon on her tennis dress.
"I can't talk about it otherwise I'm going to cry. It's horrible what happened. Not just for France, but for the whole world. But it means so much. That's why I put this on my bag. I wanted to give my best to them today.
"I have no word to describe how I feel. We should all be touched by that because it's terrible, it's the freedom of public expression and just the humanity that is touched behind this," she said.
"We have to stay really close all together and just stand up. "
Cornet said that she first heard of the attack while her partner Benoit Pair was on court on Wednesday.
"I was so shocked and very emotional about it, of course," she said.
"I think I will need some time to be over it because right now it touches my feelings and it's the same for all the French people."
Cornet said that she thought of the tragedy frequently during her match.
"Each time I was going to my chair, it was coming to my mind," she said.
