DSI probing graft in cassava price intervention scheme

The Department of Special Investigation will soon take over a corruption case associated with the government's cassava price intervention which cost Bt4.1 billion, a senior DSI official said yesterday.

Kornwat Panpraphakorn said it was likely the Bt10-billion price intervention scheme, which involved a number of people, was designed originally with corruption in mind. The issue will be soon submitted to the DSI’s board of executives for consideration on whether the matter will be put under DSI jurisdiction.
He said the DSI recently met with the Public Warehouse Organisation (PWO), which took part in the scheme on behalf of the state. The PWO has filed more than 90 petitions with police in regard to cheating detected in the scheme. A total of Bt400 million of damage had been found incurred through a corps trading firm alone, he said.
