Ordinary National Educational Test reduced to five subjects

Ordinary National Educational Test reduced to five subjects

The Ordinary National Educational Test (O-NET) will be reduced to five subjects - mathematics, science, Thai, English and Social Studies - starting from the academic year 2015 onwards, Education Minister Admiral Narong Pipathanasai said yesterday.

The three other subjects, which will no longer be included in the O-NET, could be tested by schools in a manner that best reflects each location’s context, Narong said after yesterday’s meeting of the National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIETS) board.
Narong said the change could be implemented without a three-year advance warning because no law or regulation required such advance notice.
Deputy Minister Krissanapong Kirtikara said the O-NET subject reduction should help lessen the number of students cramming into schools at present.
