Festivities start in Silom today, run for 3-4 days

THE BANGKOK Metropolitan Administration is hosting a grand Songkran celebration in the Silom area from today until Tuesday, which includes various Thai cultural activities like a parade of the Buddha image bathing ritual, Thai traditional performances as

Adviser to the city governor, Wallop Suwandee, said the Silom celebrations would be held from 3pm until 9pm throughout the three-day period. He also urged the public to observe safe, alcohol-free, obscenity-free and powder-free celebrations. Traffic at Silom would be closed from noon from the Sala Daeng intersection to the Nararom intersection.
Other areas that would be closed for traffic for the Songkran celebrations in Bangkok include the Khao San Road-Tanao Road area, which would close from 6pm to midnight from tomorrow till Wednesday. The Chokchai 4 Road, the Lat Phrao-Wang Hin intersection until the Chokchai 4 Intersection and the Nak Niwat Road would also close from 11am to midnight from Monday to Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat presided over the opening of the “Songkran 2015, Preserving Thai Tradition for the Happiness of all Thais”, which will run until Wednesday at Siam Paragon’s Hall of Fame and Parc Paragon, to conserve and promote traditional values of Songkran. Nine ancient Buddha images from the National Museum and Fine Arts Central Storage of Pathum Thani – would be placed together for the first time at Siam Paragon for the public to pay their respects, along with an exhibition, Asean cultural performances and more.
