NACC to probe 2006-10 compensation scheme

The commission will decide whether Yingluck should be subject to indictment for the compensation package, said NACC spokesman Vicha Mahakhun.
At least 524 victims have been compensated, with a total amount of Bt577 million being dispensed.
Each family of those killed received compensation of Bt7.75 million while those who became disabled were paid Bt4.5 million per person. Those suffering less serious injuries received Bt225,000 each.
Most of those compensated were relatives of the 99 people killed and 2,000 injured during the April-May 2010 crackdown under the appointed Abhisit Vejjajiva administration. Seventy-seven people who were imprisoned for politically related charges in 2010 were also compensated in accordance with how long they spent in prison.
The compensation was purportedly made in an attempt to forge national reconciliation, but critics see it as a form of bribe or reward, as most beneficiaries were red-shirt demonstrators, and supporters of the Yingluck government.
