New framework aims to usher in a new era of higher education across region

THAILAND'S Office of National Education Standards and Quality Assessment has announced a framework containing four principles that now apply to all institutes of higher education within the 10 Asean member countries - a move that aims to create equivalent

Significantly, this allows for school credits to be easily transferred among institutes in the region. 
The Asean Quality Assurance Framework in Higher Education is the new standard that all universities within Asean now have to comply with. The framework has established four principles aimed at improving and coordinating standards in all higher-level |institutes in Asean so they |achieve the same educational outcomes. 
The framework defines the principles of the following: the external quality assurance agency, the external quality assurance processes, the internal quality assurance and the national qualifications framework. 
The principles can however be adjusted to suit the learning environment of each country.
Despite the framework being newly introduced, credits cannot be transferred until the full integration of the Asean Economic Community, which is scheduled for December 31.
Credit transfers for primary and secondary schools will be considered later. 
More than 12 million students attend universities in Asean.
