Princess Sirindhorn gives away NJ Spelling Bee awards

KITTNITI Witchayapaisitsakul from Wat Suthi Wararam School was recently presented with the 17th NJ National Spelling Bee Championship's royal-sponsored Champ of Year trophy at a ceremony at Chitralada Royal Villa's Dusidalai Hall.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the ceremony which was also attended by Pana Janviroj, chief executive officer Nation International Edutainment Plc and Praphan Chivaphongse, vice president/head of the Sustainability Department at Total Access Communication Plc.
Along with the coveted trophy, Kittniti received an all-expenses-paid, one-month English scholarship at Eltham College in Melbourne, Australia, and his adviser was awarded a two-week scholarship at the same college.
The staff at NJ Magazine, part of the Nation Multimedia Group, recognises the importance of promoting and developing the use of English among Thai youths and works continuously to develop the potential and preparedness of youngsters ahead of the full implementation of the Asean Economic Community at the end of the year.
The royal-endorsed NJ National Spelling Bee Championship, conducted in close collaboration with public and private agencies and academic institutions nationwide, has grown to become one of the Nation Multimedia Group’s flagship events.
At this year’s grand final on February 14, 100 upper-high-school students – 25 from each of the country’s four regions – competed at the winner-takes-all glittering event at the John XXIII Conference Centre Hall at Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi campus.
Planning is already underway for the 18th NJ National Spelling Bee Championship, with the organisers aiming to extend the reach of the competition to even more students.
