Lao minister, envoy pay last respects to late revered monk

Lao Minister of Post and Telecommunications Hiem Phommachanh and Lao Ambassador to Thailand Lee Boonkham yesterday paid their respects to the body of Luang Phor Khoon Parisuttho at Khon Kaen University's (KKU) Golden Jubilee Hall.

Presiding over the afternoon session of Abhidhamma prayer for Luang Phor Khoon, Hiem told reporters that he had high respect for the late Abbot of Wat Ban Rai in Nakhon Ratchasima's Dan Khun Thot district after he spoke to him about the importance of doing good deeds.
"We use to invite Luang Phor Khoon to make merit and preach to people on various occasions. Each time he would teach us, Thai and Laotian people, to love each other," he added.
Lee said he wanted to say his last goodbye to the late monk, who garnered respect from both Thai and Laotian people while teaching them to peacefully co-exist.
Meanwhile, Suwat Chata-ngam, a visual arts lecturer at Nakhon Ratchasima's Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, yesterday revealed that he had been contacted by KKU's Faculty of Medicine to design a glass casket for Luang Phor Khoon's body and he had submitted the design for the faculty's consideration.
The casket would be made mainly of fibreglass and glass with the design depicting some religious rites and a human's life circle of birth, old age, illness and death, as well as Luang Phor Khoon's teachings, he said.
It would be eight metres long and just over two metres high, he said, adding that if the design were approved it would take three months to build.
