Stranded Thai fishing boat workers rescued

The government has brought back 567 Thai fishing boat workers who were stranded in Indonesia via a government-to-government cooperation, Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the deputy spokesman at the Prime Minister's Officer, announced yesterday.

They were brought back between October 2014 and Wednesday, he said.
Sansern said the Indonesian authorities praised Thailand for taking care of the workers and bringing them home fast.
After the workers arrived in Thailand, the Foreign Affairs Ministry contacted the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, the Royal Thai Police and other related agencies to help them find jobs and reclaim their entitled benefits from previous employers and various welfare systems.
