A showcase for Thai culture

A showcase for Thai culture

THE Culture Ministry will stage a festival of events in London to mark the anniversary of Thai-British diplomatic relations and the 60th birthday of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

“It’s a remarkable step in bilateral ties. It’s been 130 years since the British government invited Siam to participate in an international fair and music festival in London,” permanent secretary Apinan Poshyananda said yesterday during an interview on Now26.
The highlight of the Thai Festival will be a classic Khon dance to be performed at the Royal Albert Hall on June 18, he told Now26, a television channel owned by the Nation Multimedia Group.
Seven Thai films will be shown at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts from June 25-27, including “Teacher’s Diary” (Kid Teung Wittaya), which depicts the educational system and teachers’ devotion in Thailand, and “Mahajanaka”, an animation film based on a story written by His Majesty.
The Bt20-million festival will also present the Thailand Eye exhibition at Saatchi Gallery featuring the works of more than 20 Thai artists.
