Supreme Court upholds 22-year prison term for six kidnappers

The Supreme Court Tuesday upheld a 22-year imprisonment given to six people accused of kidnapping a 36-year-old Taiwanese millionaire for Bt30 million ransom in 2009.

The Court of Appeals found the six defendants – Thai nationals Aumpon Sae-whang, Sarawuth Sae-yhang, Samut Yangying, and Chinese nationals Chen Zi Wen, Zhang Za Lun and Ching Chang – guilty of kidnapping textile entrepreneur Tle Lee Wei and gave each of them a 22-year prison term.
According to witness, the victim was abducted by these gangsters who made a fault claim of being police officers. They also robbed the victim of his belongings including cash, passport, account book and electronic devices before holding him for ransom. Following the relatives’ complaint to police, the gang was arrested and had been in detention during trial period ever since.
