Nurses call for better career prospects

Nurses call for better career prospects

THE NURSING Union of Thailand urged Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday to answer its five demands for nurses' better career prospects.

It has demanded, for example, that registered nurses be recruited as civil servants, and that nurses get fair remuneration. These demands are related to the fact that several nurses continue working at state hospitals as temporary workers and thus have no access to welfare.
The union has also pressed for the establishment of a fund that will protect nurses from damage arising from their work. Two other demands are to reduce the gap in income ceilings among nurses in the public sector, and make it possible for them to climb the professional ladder. The union made these demands via a Facebook post, after agreeing to cancel their rally in front of Government House.
The union dropped the plan to hold a rally after government officials promised to look into their request quickly.
