Bombings, shootings in South despite heavy security
Security in the deep South is being beefed up for the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan - while officers are on the lookout for two pick-up trucks and three motorcycles that might have been smuggled into Yala province for attacks.
Early yesterday morning, two bomb attacks in Pattani’s Khok Pho and Ma Yor districts led to six injuries. Three soldiers were slightly wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in Tambon Bang Kora of Khok Pho district. Three defence volunteers, as part of a nine-strong patrolling team to provide teacher protection in Tambon Trang of Ma Yor district, were slightly injured when a roadside bomb went off at 8.40am.
Resident Sukri Hayisalae, 40, and wife Raina Da-oh, 35, were shot and injured by two men on a motorcycle in Narathiwat’s Muang district while the couple rode their motorcycle towards Tak Bai district at 11.55am. Sukri sustained two gunshot wounds in the left leg while Raina had four gunshot wounds in both legs. Police collected six spent cartridges from the scene.
