40 behind Yala bombs in May

Investigations into the small bomb attacks in Yala's Muang district on May 14 to 16 shows that 40 people were involved, chief detective at the Southern Border Provinces Police Operations Centre said yesterday.

The bombings at 42 locations led to 21 injuries and a lot of property damage.
Pol Colonel Nathakorn Kanchanaporn said DNA test results from objects found at the bomb scenes showed that three women and six men, including Sukri Niloh, were involved. Sukri was arrested among 22 suspects in early June.
On checking security camera footage, police spotted 18 suspicious motorcycles, three cars and at least 40 alleged accomplices, he said.
These accomplices were divided into four groups: Yala’s Muang and Lam Mai group; Yala’s Rusoh and Raman group; Yala’s Bannang Sata and Than To group; and Pattani’s Khok Pho, Nong Chik and Muang group.
So far, the authorities have detained 34 suspects, 23 of whom were later released, he added.
