Commerce sets recommended prices for bottled water

To prevent price gouging for bottled water, the Commerce Ministry has posted recommended retail prices and will impose more stringent measures in case of serious shortages.

“To prevent unscrupulous traders overcharging consumers, the ministry is setting suggested prices at Bt7 for a small bottle of drinking water [500-600 millilitres], or Bt10 for a chilled bottle, and Bt14 for a 1.5-litre bottle,” Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya said Wednesday.
The ministry has found more demand in the market, but not yet tight stocks.
Violators will be subject to a maximum Bt140,000 fine and/or seven years in jail under the Prices of Goods and Services Act.
