Reward tripled for Bangkok bombing suspect

Bangkok (dpa) - The reward for the Bangkok bombing suspect was tripled Friday, to Bt3 million offered for information leading to his capture, police said.

Officers have also been told to stop talking to the media after conflicting accounts emerged Thursday of the ongoing investigation, police chief Somyot Poompanmoung said.

Earlier Friday, a multi-faith ceremony was held at the site of the Bangkok bombing conducted by Buddhist monks, Muslim imams, Christian and Hindu priests and Sikh teachers.

The Bangkok governor, senior cabinet members and ambassadors of nations that lost citizens also attended.

After the ceremony, the officials laid flowers in front of a makeshift plaque with the names of all the victims.

Two men thought to have aided the prime suspect in the central Bangkok bombing this week were no longer under investigation after one turned himself in, police said late Thursday.

One was a tour guide and the other was a Chinese tourist who had already left the country, police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said.

Police are now also investigating a woman dressed in black and seen in CCTV footage at the time of the blast, which claimed 20 lives.

The blast was not thought to be the work of international terrorist organisations, Somyot reiterated Friday, after investigators consulted with Interpol and foreign intelligence agencies.
