Bangkok Glass in final showdown of Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship

Thailand League champions Bangkok Glass, powered by three national Thailand team players including Wilavan Apinyapong and Pleumjit Thinkaow, produced a stunning 3-2 (25-14 17-25 25-23 19-25 15-9) victory over China League champions Zhejiang in the do-or-d

With the victory, Bangkok Glass became the Thailand’s first women’s volleyball club team in history to secure a final berth in the continent’s biggest club volleyball tournament. Since the tournament’s inception in 1999, Thailand had captured the Asian Women’s Club title for three times in a row from 2009 to 2011, but they fielded all national team players competing under the Federbrau’ banner (2009 and 2010) and Chang’s banners in 2011.
Idea Khonkaen emerged as the first club from Thailand to contest the annual Asian Women’s Club tournament in 2013, but they returned with seventh place. Nakhon Ratchasima represented Thailand in the following episode last year and had to be content with the fifth place.
On Sunday, Bangkok Glass will go up against the winners between defending champions Hisamitsu Seiyaku Springs from Japan and Taiwan Power. The match was due to take place late Saturday night.
